After several hours by bus (and also a passage with the ferry), I arrived in Alta. It was the middle of the night and I remember walking with my luggage in the snow towards the accommodation which was not near the center.

Cloudy sky the first night in Alta
It was really night when I placed my bags in the accommodation. I went out and saw that the sky was cloudy so I preferred to rest and recharge the batteries. I would have been 2 nights in Alta and, unfortunately, one had already passed. Hence, the time to spot the Northern Lights was less and less.

The following day, recovered the necessary strength, I took the reflex and the action cam and I set off. I wanted to see a lot of things and take some shots. Even though most of the stuff was submerged in snow, something I managed to capture (as seen in the previous video).
The first place of interest I wanted to photograph/film was the Cathedral of the Northern Lights (Nordlyskatedralen) hoping it was a good omen to see it from here to the end of the trip.
City center and beach area
After a walk in the pedestrian street of the center, I decided to continue the walk with a circular tour that would take me to the beach (I would say, towards the sea!) And then return to the accommodation. So I went back to the E6, the famous European road that connects Trelleborg (southern Sweden) to Kirkenes (Norway, near the Russian border), and walked to Bossekopveien, the route that would take me to the beach route (Strandveien). There too a few shots and then return to the accommodation.
Best place to see the Northern Lights
The evening/night was approaching and I had to decide where to go and hope to find her. The center of Alta was to be excluded because it was too light source. I needed a dark place but I didn’t know the area. I looked at the map and decided to focus on the beach area. Why did my attention fall there? The answer is simple: during the afternoon walk, the darkness was already rising and I realized that it was a lit area but not too much. And so in the map I identified a point that I had noticed live without light (at least so you could see from where I was!)

When I reached the point I had decided, there was actually no light. So, it could have been a great place to start. I prepared the tripod as in the previous stops hoping that the outcome was better. Reflex set and hooked and now there was only one thing to do, wait!
The minutes passed and with them a little confidence. On reflection, after this night there would be one in Kirkenes and then those aboard the fjord post ship (where, however, I had already seen it on my first solo trip).
Everything changed, however, at some point. The Northern Lights have finally begun to show, first in a mild way and then in a continuous flow. And with it numerous shots to capture the best moments. And could not miss the shot to post on social networks with the caption: “Here the probability of seeing it was really #Alta” :D
