In this article I’ll tell you about the stop in Chania during the cruise that allowed me to discover Greece and Turkey.

How to reach Chania?
The same day in which I returned to Venice from the Czech Republic in the morning, in the evening I took the flight to reach the island of Crete. I was in Plzeň (find out the article here) to see “Viktoria Plzeň-Inter match: full result in the Czech away match!” (find out the article here) and before reaching the airport I also took a trip to the center of Prague by night (find out the article here) to get some souvenir shots of the Czech capital at night. So, I reached Heraklion (Heraklion) from Venice but it’s as if I reached it from Prague 😛
There I boarded Costa Venezia in Heraklion (find out the article here) to start the cruise in which this destination was also included in the itinerary.
Ancient Venetian port in Chania
Having left the ship in the port of Heraklion, as soon as I arrived at my destination, I decided that day and the next to learn more about this city!
I started the walk from the Port of Nea Chora (Μαρίνα Νέας Χώρας Χανίων) continuing towards the Firkas Fortress (Ενετικό Φρούριο Φιρκά) where I had the opportunity to admire and photograph the Venice Lighthouse in the distance no before reaching the bay of the Ancient Venetian Port ( Παλαιό Ενετικό Λιμάνι Χανίων) where the Küçük Hassan (or Janissary) Mosque (Τζαμί Κιουτσούκ Χασάν) is located.

From there I continued towards the small port of the old city (Μαρίνα Χανίων) until I reached the Bastione Sabbionara (Πύλη της Άμμου), the remains of an entrance door in the walls of the old Venetian city next to the sea.
Returning towards the city center, we could not miss a photo stop at the Church of Ágios Nikólaos (Ιερός Ναός Αγίου Νικολάου) before meeting the Western Venetian Walls again (Δυτικό Ενετικό Τεί χος)
