In this article I’ll tell you about the stop in Coimbra during the journey to discover Portugal and Luxembourg.

How to reach Coimbra?
After starting the journey in the Algarve (south of Portugal) with stops in Faro (find out the article here), Albufeira (find out the article here), Portimão (find out the article here) and Lagos (find out the article here), I took a bus that took me directly to Lisbon. From there another bus took me to my destination.
First steps in the city
From the bus stop, I headed towards the Baixa Citadina where I could admire both the Igreja de Santa Cruz (Monastery of the Holy Cross) and the Jardim da Manga.
Sé Velha and Sé Nova in Coimbra
Going up to the upper part of the city, I first encountered the Torre de Anto and, shortly after, Sé Velha, the city’s old cathedral. Continuing uphill, I reached the university area where Sé Nova, the city’s new cathedral, is also present.
A few steps further I had the chance to see the Igreja de São João de Almedina and the Museu Nacional Machado de Castro.
Going down towards Mondego river
Going down towards Praça do Comércio (Commerce Square), I encountered Torre de Almedina and Porta de Barbacã. A little further on there is also Igreja de São Tiago.
I continued until I reached Largo da Portagem which is located near one of the banks of the Mondego river.
