I dedicate this first article of the category “My life aboard Costa Cruises” to Costa Venezia. Together with Costa Pacifica, it was the ship of my last contract on board. For me it was also the first time to participate in the baptism and inauguration of a new ship including the subsequent great 53-day voyage (divided into 3 stages) to reach Tokyo after leaving Trieste.
Behind the scenes of Costa Venezia
I had to embark in Monfalcone where the ship was still in the pipeline. Among the thousand aspects that can be found in such a situation, the most particular one is that I was able to take a tour of the ship and have shots that, up to that moment, were unpublished to many, with the exception of those who had access to them: the famous behind the scenes :)
Below you will find a video with the most significant shots I captured before the baptism.
Inauguration of Costa Venezia
They were hectic days in which there were a thousand things to do and prepare but, finally, the moment of baptism (find out the article here) has arrived. Below you can find some shots of those moments lived in the Teatro Rosso (Red Theater) of Costa Venezia.
1st part: from Trieste to Dubai
After the inaugural cruise in the Adriatic lasting a few days, the great journey to the Far East has begun. The first route allowed me to dock in ports where I had never been like Haifa (in Israel) or to return to some, already known, such as Aqaba (in Jordan) or those of Oman (Salalah and Muscat). But the peculiarity was also another: in previous contracts, although I had already passed through these areas with Costa Victoria, first, and Costa neoRiviera, then, it was the first time I made a stop in the United Arab Emirates.
Here are some pictures from the places I visited on an excursion during the 1st part of the great journey.
2nd part: from Dubai to Singapore
In addition to the inevitable stops in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, I also had the opportunity to stop in another port in the United Arab Emirates: Fujairah. So, it was the first time for me there in those areas and could not miss the landing in a port that is not usually docked by the company’s ships :)
The continuation of the route was India (and Sri Lanka), with super popular ports after the season with Costa neoRiviera a few days earlier. Later Malaysia, also these ports known during the season with the Costa Victoria.
Here too, the most significant images captured during the excursions of the 2nd part of the great journey :)
3rd: from Singapore to Tokyo
And here we are, the 3rd route has finally arrived. I must say that, both for me and for many colleagues and guests on board, it was perhaps the most anticipated part of the great journey from Trieste to Tokyo. Yes, there were guests on board all 53 days of the trip :)
Returning to the route, I said it was the most awaited. But why? For my part I can say that it was the first time that I had gone so far east and so for many of my colleagues and guests. Excluding the first stage of Laem Chabang (to go to Bangkok, Thailand) that I had already met in the season with the Costa Victoria, the rest was pure novelty. I’m talking about the stops in Vietnam (Phú Mỹ and Da Nang), Hong Kong and Taiwan (Keelung) as well as the final stop Tokyo. The latter I could barely see her from the bus that took me to the airport area where the flight to Spain was waiting for me. Why? The answer is simple: Costa Pacifica was waiting for me in Málaga for the transfer :)
Or rather: I waited for the ship since I arrived the day before :P
Here below, as before, some images from the excursions of the 3rd part of the great journey.
Costa Venezia: to the East only in the footsteps of Marco Polo?
The great journey of the Costa Venezia has been dubbed by many “in the East in the footsteps of Marco Polo” but, after reading the article and watching the videos, you do not agree with me in thinking that it is also in the footsteps of Mirco Polo? :D
