In this article I will talk about the journey to Eastern Sicily, a journey through history, culture, landscapes and villages in an area of Italy that is, sometimes, little known. I went there to participate in the Tbex event (later canceled for Covid) and, in the previous days, I had decided to go and visit other places than Catania, where I was based. Why? The answer is simple: I had already been to Catania so I thought that the best idea was to discover other surrounding realities.

Giardini Naxos
I left by train from Catania and, on this first day of new knowledges, I arrived at the first stop: Giardini Naxos (find out the article here).
Taormina
There, not far away, after a bit on foot, one by minibus and another on foot, I reached Taormina (find out the article here). Obviously, I decided to devote most of my free time to the Ancient Theater of Taormina.
Acireale
Although the sun had already set, during the train ride back to Catania, I decided to stop for a few minutes also in Acireale (find out the article here).
Noto
On this second day of new knowledges, in Catania, I took the bus that would take me to the first stop: Noto (find out the article here). Don’t miss the photo (in front of the cathedral) with the caption “Un personaggio (a) Noto” :)
Avola
Still by bus, I reached nearby Avola (find out the article here). Famous for its wine, this city surprised me with another aspect: the sea. You too, looking at this shot, wouldn’t think I was there to capture it not during the coldest months of the year, would you?
Syracuse
Last day stop, after reaching it by train, was Syracuse (find out the article here). Much better known (especially outside Italy) than the other two, despite having little time, I decided to accelerate the pace and reach as many (photographic) points as possible such as the island of Ortigia.
Messina
Third day of travel and, thanks to a Bla Bla Car ride, I reached Messina (find out the article here). An obligatory stop was to be present a few minutes before noon in front of the city’s Cathedral.
Reggio Calabria (small digression from Eastern Sicily)
From Messina, I decided to cross the strait (not on foot!) to go and see Reggio Calabria (find out the article here). As soon as I got there, one thing came to mind: it was the first time I had set foot in this Italian region.
Militello in Val di Catania: a village in Eastern Sicily
Not far from Catania, I went to the discovery of a village unknown to me until that day: I’m talking about Militello in Val di Catania (find out the article here). Remembering that it is not to be confused with Sant’Agata di Militello, a locality also in Sicily but in the northern part of the island, in the province of Messina.
