Edinburgh: second stop of the journey towards Manchester, Scotland and Ireland (Northern and Eire)

After a journey of about 7 hours by bus, I reached Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland. As soon as I set foot on the ground, I can say that there was already the air of being in Scotland. Why? Simply because the bus stop (depot) is right in the center of the city. I headed to the hostel and stopped there to rest to build up the necessary energy for the next two days. In fact, in the first, I took a tour of the city and its surroundings reaching Arthur’s seat and, in the second, I joined an excursion with itinerary Loch Lomond and Stirling Castle.

City Center and Edinburgh Castle
As previously written, I dedicated the first of the two days to discovering the Scottish capital.
Starting from the hostel, I headed towards the garden of St. Andrew Square where I remember there were many people doing different activities: there were those who sunbathed, those who had a chat, those who sipped a drink and, finally, the street performers . I discovered right there that in those days the city was preparing for a very important event: the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Leaving the Melville monument behind, I head towards the Scott monument and then cross the Scottish National Gallery towards Edinburgh Castle. I remember that it was difficult even just to take a photo of the fortress for how many tourists/excursionist/travelers were present (in August I think this is normal!)

Leaving the Castle behind, I headed for Holyrood Palace. Along the way (part of it was also a pedestrian zone) I met St. Giles’ Cathedral on my right and continuing through the crowd, I ran into numerous other street performers. Arrived in the area of the building, turning around, I saw the hills in the background and I asked myself: “Why not try to reach the summit since the day is beautiful and perhaps also the view from up there?”. From this thought a new goal was born: to reach Arthur’s Seat, the highest point of the hill.

I dedicated the second day to a guided tour that led me to discover Loch Lomond
and Sterling Castle through the landscapes of southern Scotland.
