First steps in the city: the Opera and Ballet Theater

After getting off the train, I headed for the hostel. Placed my luggage, I decided to leave immediately to discover the city. I tried to see what was around there even though most of the visit was the following day. After crossing the Pervomayskiy Skver park (Первомайский сквер), I took the underpass to cross the super road. And I found myself in front of one of the most famous places in the city: the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theater (Новосибирский государственный академический театр оперы и балета).

The team changes name but not stadium

As you have surely noticed in the previous photo video, the weather conditions were getting worse but it was not a problem and I continued the walk. I walked along the long straight that leads to the Spartak Stadium (Спартак) crossing, at a certain point on the right, also the area of ​​the Tsentral’nyy Park (Центральный парк). The football stadium is the home of the local team, namely FC Novosibirsk (ФК «Новосибирск”). But, when I was there during my Trans-Siberian, the team was called by the old name, ie FC Sibir Novosibirsk (ФК «Сибирь» Новосибирск).

Stories of bridges in Novosibirsk

From there I got a crazy idea: despite the weather, I wanted to reach the banks of the river Ob’ (Обь). Why this choice? The answer is simple: see the railway bridge that crosses the river, but even more so, another point of interest. What is it about? A section of the bridge (original) which is preserved nearby as a monument. Given the weather conditions, I preferred not to walk up to the Bugrinsky Bridge (Бугриинский мост) but to go back towards the center. This construction (the last bridge mentioned) is known to be the longest arch bridge in all of Russia, one of the longest in the world.

Last shots before the restart

On the way back, despite the rain that came and went, we couldn’t miss a photo stop at the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral (Собор Александра Невского).
It should not be forgotten that the city is also known as an important university center.
After two nights in the third largest city (by population) in Russia, I headed to the station to wait for the train to Irkutsk (find out the article here), the next stop on my Trans-Siberian.
