Paphos

The first stop on the “Discovering Cyprus” trip was Paphos.

To start getting an idea of the places and views that I was able to admire, I invite you to watch the video below containing the most significant images of this experience.

How to reach Paphos?

I reached this destination with a low-cost flight directly from Italy, more precisely from the A. Canova international airport in Treviso.

Ktima Pafos: the upper part of the city

Walking towards the highest part of the city (Ktima Pafos), the first noteworthy monument I came across/photographed was the imposing Greek Orthodox church of Agios Kendeas (Άγιος Κενδέας).

Continuing my walk in the old city, I came across several murals. I was struck by what Aphrodite represents (Aphrodite’s Children Mural), Venus for the Romans, a goddess who according to mythology was originally from these parts.

After crossing the pedestrian area, I decided to head towards the sea, the lower part of the city. In doing so I went through the Turkish bath (Οθωμανικά Λουτρά): given the temperatures, a nice bath would have been perfect 😃

Kato Pafos: the lower part of the city

Having landed in the lower part of the city (Kato Pafos), I headed towards the area of the Tombs of the Kings (Αρχαιολογικός Χώρος Τάφων των Βασιλέων) and the lighthouse beach (Παραλία Φά ρου).

In the distance, in addition to the lighthouse, you could glimpse the archaeological site of Nea Paphos (Αρχαιολογικός Χώρος Νέας Πάφου) with its ruins. Examples are the House of Donisius (Οικία του Διονύσου), the Forty Columns Fortress (Φρούριο των Σαράντα Κολονών) and the Villa of Theseus (Έπαυλη τ ου Θησέα).

The last photographic stop of the day was the stop at the Greek Orthodox church of Agion Anargyron (Ι.Ν. Αγίων Αναργύρων).

The journey continues…

The journey continues and the next stop of this experience was the capital Nicosia (find out the article here).

Extras (not to be missed!) in addition to Paphos
