How to reach Salina?
After the previous stop in Panarea (find out the article here), I reached this destination by hydrofoil.
Let’s say that the options on how to reach this Aeolian island were not that many 😛
First steps on the island
As soon as I arrived on the island I walked around the center area and the Parish of Maria Santissima Addolorata
and then head to discover the Saracen Caves, the prehistoric village of Portella and the Belvedere in the Punta Lamie area.
Salina Island (on foot) in one day
The following day, I left at dawn and returned to my accommodation in the evening in the dark: why all this time? The answer is simple: I saw practically almost the entire island by walking for over 30 km. After crossing the Malvasia area, the first daily stop was the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Terzito and then continued up to Rinella (and its beach).
From there, after starting the climb again, I took the path that led me to admire the Praiola beach from above.
Pollara and “Il Postino” by Massimo Troisi
The next stop of the day was to reach Monte dei Porri to be able to admire the island from one of the highest possible points.
Finally, I reached Pollara, a location made famous by the film “Il Postino” by Massimo Troisi. Here you can see a mural dedicated to this event!
It was already dark so I only saw part of this village.
(Punta) Lingua in Salina
The next day the sea was very rough, so I had to stay an extra day (and night) as the hydrofoil runs had been cancelled.
So I decided to reach the part of the island that I missed seeing: Lingua.
During the walk I was able to see the Biscotto Beach, the Parish of S. Bartolomeo,
the Lingua seafront up to the Punta Lingua lighthouse.
Also in that area I was also able to admire the Natural Oasis-Pantano di Salina.
