Tampere

After leaving Estonia (find out the article here), the first Finnish stop on the trip to Lapland was Tampere.

To start getting an idea of the places and views that I was able to admire, I invite you to watch the video below containing the most significant images of this experience.

From Tallinn to Tampere: how?

How did I get to Tampere from Tallinn? As a first means of transport I used the ship from Tallinn to Helsinki. The departure was at 6 am and now you can understand why in the Tallinn article I wrote that I left at dawn :)
Arrived at the port of Helsinki (which was located south of the city) at around 8:15 am, I had to take a long walk to the central bus depot. The bus to Tampere would be well over 4 hours later. Although I wasn’t too tired from the walk (about an hour, if I remember correctly), I preferred to wait for the bus as it was raining and it wouldn’t have been worth it.

Tampere: Manchester of Finland

After just over 2 hours by bus, I arrived in Tampere. Leaving my luggage in the storage area of the bus station, I decided to take a tour of the city I have just reached. Although the darkness was advancing (the famous few hours of light in Northern Europe were beginning to show), I managed to capture some memory shots. I started with the Cathedral (Tuomiokirkko)

and then continue towards the center. The first thing I thought when I saw the landscape around me: “It looks like Manchester”. In fact, later, later I found out that it’s called the Manchester of Finland.

Best photo shots at night

As you had the chance to glimpse in the previous video, the best shots were in the area of the old church (Tampereen vanha kirkko). In fact, they were at the Town Hall (Tampereen Raatihuone)

and the Theater (Tampereen Teatteri).

Scouting the station: a great idea to avoid unexpected events

At the end of the day, before going to the couchsurfer, I made a trip to the train station. What is special about it that deserves a photo? No, it’s not about the photos! As the next day I would have used the train to reach Vaasa, so I tried to understand what would be waiting for me a few hours later :)

Nokia: a must stop near Tampere

The next day, in the morning, with the local bus, I went to a small town in Finland well known all over the world: Nokia.

A few clicks and back to Tampere to go to the bus depot to collect luggage (there from the day before) and then go to the station to take the train towards Vaasa (find out the article here).

Extra (not to be missed!) of Tampere

After this brief overview of the stop in Tampere, aren’t you curious to go beyond simple images to better understand the travel experience? No problem, here is a preview of the places mentioned above.
