In this article I talk about the presence of too many English words in everyday (italian) communication.

Daily communication

In everyday life, whether from television or from various websites and blogs on the Internet, very often we hear that there is a very large presence of English terms in everyday communication. I forgot to specify that the question/controversy is always seen with a negative meaning. I have pondered several times and drawn my own conclusion which I wrote later in the article.

Too many English words: what if that’s not the problem?

Traveling and also having to translate the explanations of guides from English into Italian made me come to a conclusion: perhaps the problem in today’s communication is not the presence of too many English terms but that people don’t know Italian well.
Let me explain: the weak point of the situation, in many cases, is the lack of knowledge of words in Italian to be able to express the same concept without the aid of English.

Let’s try to understand better with an example

An example, deriving from this period, is the word lockdown: everyone now knows what it is but few would know how to insert its translation into a sentence completely in Italian. Its translation may be confinamento (confinement) but it is not such a common term to use. So, perhaps, the problem is the lack of knowledge of Italian words, as already written above.
