I dedicate this article in the hope of explaining why it is right to use “Travel and tourism agency” and not part of this expression.

The law is clear

In common parlance we tend to call them only travel agency(s), erroneously,
Why? First, the law defines them by their full name, so it must be right. The famous principle that the law doesn’t admit ignorance (ignorantia legis non excusat).
But let’s try to go further and understand better :)

Tourism and travel: are they or are they not the same thing?

From a practical point of view, the explanation is simple: tourism and travel are two different things. Why? The answer is simple: those who undertake a trip also undertake some form of tourism but those who undertake some form of tourism are not necessarily facing a travel.
If you don’t believe it, ask any serious traveler and they will confirm this unwritten rule;)

The right skills to work in tourism

In fact, I decided to write this article because, during my stay in Santorini, I met a guy on vacation and who works for a hotel. To my curiosity to know what he thought of these two terms, he exclaimed: “They are the same thing, tourism and travel are the same thing!”. Here is an example of a person who works in tourism not having clear the difference and not having studied/deepened the world of work of (presumed) competence.
