Vaasa

After just over 2 hours by train I arrived in Vaasa. The couchsurfer who would host me was waiting for me at the train station.

To start getting an idea of the places and views that I was able to admire, I invite you to watch the video below containing the most significant images of this experience.

If good morning starts in the morning…

Since it was already late afternoon when I arrived and placed in the accommodation, for that evening I decided not to see the city yet. Since the next day the bus to Oulu was at 3 pm sharp, I was betting everything on the following day hoping for a nice day. And how did it turn out? If you’ve seen the previous video, you can tell me it doesn’t look like Finland in early January. This is because the weather day was wonderful. Well, actually, every now and then, an icy wind blew that you can’t hear in the photos: D

Glimpses of photographic interest in Vaasa

I started the walk towards the beach (small beach given its size) of Sandö (Hietasaaren ranta)

passing through the church (Vaasan kirkko)

and the Court of Appeal (Vaasan hovioikeus). From there, turning around, I noticed a tourist attraction not to be missed and therefore photographed: the Merikotka (Suomen ilmailulle), a statue with an eagle.

Is it really Finland at the beginning of January?

Continuing the walk and approaching the coast, on my left I met a building that seemed interesting to photograph but then I saw on the map that it was the prison (Vasa Fängelse). I turned the corner of the street and a few steps later I reached the church of St. Nicholas (Pyhän Nikolaoksen kirkko). As you can see in the photo, it doesn’t seem to be Finland at the beginning of January, again due to the usual stereotypes :D

Bus or train direction Oulu?

A photo shot from the top of the main square could not be missing (Vaasan kauppatori) :)

After the morning tour, in the afternoon I headed to the train station. Why train station if I wrote earlier that I would take the bus direction Oulu? Simple: in Vaasa the main bus stop is near the train station (find out the article here).

Extra (not to be missed!) of Vaasa

After this brief overview of the stop in Vaasa, aren’t you curious to go beyond simple images to better understand the travel experience? No problem, here is a preview of the places mentioned above.
