In this article I’ll tell you about the stop in York during the journey to discover England, Wales and Andorra.

How to get to York?

After starting the journey with stops in Bristol (find out the article here), Swansea (find out the article here), Cardiff (find out the article here) and Leeds (find out the article here), I decided to use the train to reach the next destination. There was also the possibility of taking the bus here but both for timetables and costs I preferred to opt for another choice.

First steps in the city

Once off the train, to reach the city, I crossed the Scarborough Rail Bridge.
The following day I decided to walk a lot to see as much as possible of this characteristic city of the United Kingdom.

Landmarks in the Museum Gardens

I started by admiring the Anglican church of St. Olav before entering the Museum Gardens, large gardens surrounding the Yorkshire museum, with large trees, Roman ruins and a medieval abbey (St. Mary’s Abbey).

York Minster

Not having that much time available, I started the walk on the city walls (City Wall Walk) from where the Cathedral (York Minster) stood out.

Having descended from the walls, I decided to approach it also from the ground near the statue of Constantine the Great and the Anglican church St. Michael Le Belfrey.

Shambles in York

Continuing through the alleys of the city, after passing the Barley Hall area, I walked along the famous Shambles street and its historic market.

Clifford’s Tower and the River Ouse

At that point we couldn’t miss a stop at another well-known point of interest in this city: Clifford’s Tower, a castle on a grassy hill, once used as a prison and royal mint.
Without forgetting the bridge over the River Ouse (Ouse Bridge) and the Ferris wheel near the city centre.

Final destination of the trip: Barcelona

The final destination of this trip is Barcelona, more precisely the Camp Nou, to attend the (already decisive?) match of the Champions League group 🙂
